TOKYO (Nikkei)–Toshiba Corp. (6502) will establish an office Thursday charged with overseeing reconstruction projects in the disaster-hit Tohoku region.
The office will be set up within Toshiba’s marketing group and headquartered at its Tohoku branch in Sendai. Around 100 employees will be assigned to it from divisions and group companies engaged in such fields as power systems, water treatment infrastructure and telecommunications. Some workers will also be stationed in Morioka, in Iwate Prefecture, and in the city of Fukushima.
By teaming up with quake-hit local governments and private-sector firms, Toshiba aims to offer proposals for rebuilding and help with social infrastructure projects.
