Iokibe to Head Reconstruction Progress Follow-Up Panel, jiji, 2/10/12

Tokyo, Feb. 10 (Jiji Press)–Makoto Iokibe, president of the National Defense Academy of Japan, will head a new government panel to follow up on progress in projects to rebuild areas ravaged by the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami, Tatsuo Hirano, minister for postdisaster reconstruction, said Friday.
University of Tokyo Prof. Takashi Mikuriya will serve as deputy head of the panel, which will also advise the government based on its review of progress in the projects, Hirano said at a press conference.
Iokibe previously headed a panel tasked with planning measures to rebuild disaster-hit areas, and Mikuriya served as his deputy.
Besides Iokibe and Mikuriya, the new panel will have 13 members, including experts and the governors of the three northeastern prefectures of Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima, which were hit hardest by the disaster.
